Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week was a whirlwind with USEA’s Instructors’ Certification Program (ICP), Future Event Horse Program (FEH) and Young Event Horse Program (YEH) teaming up to offer an ultimate educational symposium in Ocala, Fla. Legendary horseman Chris Ryan, who is known for sourcing some of the most successful event horses in the world like 2008 silver medalist Mckinlaigh, was the lead clinician for the FEH program, and Le Lion d’Angers champion Chris Burton was the lead clinician for the ICP and YEH groups. Both Ryan and Burton join us on the podcast today to share their philosophies and training principles that they shared this week.

The West Coast season is officially underway with another Galway Downs Winter Horse Trials in the books. We caught up with a few of the winners from last weekend on this podcast. Megan Traynham took home the blue ribbon in the Open Intermediate division adding no jump penalties but 3.6 time in the cross-country and 2 time penalties in the show jumping. She did this with her own Lord Lombardi a 9-year-old Holsteiner gelding by Lordship. Sarah Braun picked up the win the Open Preliminary (33.4) with Korin Potenza's Crowning Event, a 15-year-old Thoroughbred (Event of the Year x Homecoming Crown). Jory McKaig also ended her weekend in first place aboard her own Demanding Day (High Demand x Soul of Kindness), a 10-year-old Thoroughbred. The pair won wire-to-wire, knocking only one pole in the show jumping to end on a score of 31.9. All scores can be found here. 

Heart of the Carolinas 3-Day Event & H.T. (HOTC) at Southern 8ths Farm is a destination event for riders up and down the east coast each spring. In addition to their ordinary horse trials divisions, they also boast a plethora of educational eventing opportunities. HOTC has been a long supporter of the USEA Classic Series and they are the only venue in the country to host a Beginner Novice Three-Day in addition to the Novice and Training level long format divisions. The new Modified level, a stepping stone between Training and Preliminary, will also make its Area III debut at the Chesterfield, S.C. venue. The HOTC crew pulls out all the stops to make sure their May event offers something for everyone. On this podcast, we speak with Leslie Law, Zach Brandt and Lizzie Snow about last week's USEF Emerging Athletes Eventing 25 Training Sessions. Two of the 2017 emerging athletes Zach and Lizzie share their experiences and highlights throughout the session, and Emerging Athletes Coach Leslie Law outlines his strategy for this group of talented young riders.

The Instructors’ Certification Program (ICP) and the USEA’s Future Event Horse (FEH) and Young Event Horse (YEH) Programs are teaming up to bring USEA members the ultimate educational opportunity in Florida this winter. Historically these educational seminars are hosted separately, but they have joined forces to ease travel requirements for instructor and young horse enthusiasts. Join us in Ocala, Fla. In her first apperance on this podcast since becoming the USEA President earlier this month, Carol Kozlowski shares her highlights from the 2016 USEA Annual Meeting and Convention and her new role with the Association. 

In 2014, Carl and Cassie Segal's Ballynoecastle RM became the highest scoring U.S. event horse. The 16-year-old Irish Sport Horse "Reggie" (Ramiro B x Ballyvaldon Natalie) has earned over 1,600 points throughout his illustrious career which includes six CCI4* completions with rider Buck Davidson. Next year Reggie is slated to retire, but until then he will enjoy lower level competiton with his longtime groom Kathleen Murray. In this podcast, we take a look back at his amazing career. 

The 2016 USEA Annual Meeting and Convention is right around the corner! On this podcast, we get some more information on the 2016 USEA Young Event Horse (YEH) 5-year-old Champions of both coasts. Woodford Reserve, An Irish Sport Horse (Tinarana's Inspector x Laharn's Laughton) owned by rider Erin Kellerhouse, took top honors on the west coast, while Foreign Quality, a Dutch Warmblood owned by Marley Stone Bourke and ridden by Tim Bourke, bested the rest on the east coast. 

This week on the podcast, we take some time to learn more about the 2016 USEA Future Event Horse (FEH) Champions. The leopard colored Knabstrupper, See Spot Fly, earned the West Coast Championship title. Leslie Asbe's gelding is by Colorado Skrodstrup and out of a TB mare, Djinn Chaser. On the East Coast, Beall Spring Shamrock came home with 3-year-old and overall victory. "Shamrock" is a Swedish Warmblood gelding owned by Stephanie Ormston and bred by Beall Spring Farm who lead the pack from start to finish.
